Most cowboy hats are made of rabbit felt. The very best hats are made of beaver felt. Very good hats are beaver/rabbit felt blends. Good hats are made of rabbit felt. Inexpensive, lower quality hats are made of wool.

These days the X’s on hats can mean different things from different companies or hat makers. In general, the more Xs the higher the quality. Hats that are made from 100% beaver are usually labelled “100% Beaver” or sometimes 500X. Most hats between 40X and 100X are Beaver/Rabbit blends. Most hats labelled 6X to 20X are made of rabbit fur felt. Hats with a 4X label are often wool/rabbit blends. Usually 2X and 3X hats are made of wool.

Each 100% Beaver Hand-Made Hat takes between 8 to 10 hours spread out over 3 days. If you order a hat, your hat is typically shipped within 14 days.
Yes, we clean and re-furbish old felt hats. Typically, we take apart and clean, and then we block (un-shape the hat crown) and plate (un-shape the hat brim). After the hat dries we re-stiffen the hat and then re-sew in the sweat band, the liner, and the hat band.Finally we re-shape each hat by hand.
Yes, we can replace the sweat band in your hat. We replace your sweat band with a full leather sweatband either 1 and 5/8” or a 2” sweat band. We typically have 5-8 different sweat bands to choose from and can easily match it up to your old sweat band.
The best things about a 100% Beaver Hat are: they hold their shape much better and are more durable in wet weather, they clean and re-shape much better than rabbit or wool hats, and they are lighter and more comfortable to wear.
Your hat shape depends usually on what you use your hat for. Rodeo hat shapes are somewhat different than ranch hat shapes. Even different rodeo events tend to shape their hats in certain ways. Cutters and reiners have their own versions of hats shapes as well. People who show horses use a different shape all-together. We can help you choose the right shape for your hat.

Yes, you can buy a custom hand-made hat without coming to our shop. First you pick your quality and colour of hat. We can help you in choosing a hat shape or you can email or text me a picture of what you have in mind. We will get you to take a circumference measurement of your head in cm or inches, just above your ears and just above your eyebrows. We will also get you to tell us what size and make of cowboy hat you are currently wearing. Finally, we will discuss with you whether your head is more of a long oval or a round oval for final fitting.

Yes, we ship hats almost every day to all parts of Canada and the USA. We have also sent several hats to Australia.
Absolutely, we receive approximately 4 to 8 hats per week by mail for cleaning, stiffening and re-shaping. Just make sure you put your name and number inside the hat box so I can call you as soon as I receive your hat. As soon as the hat is done, we will call you for payment and ship your hat back to you.
